Online Open House for Secondary Schools 2020

Finding a school that fits you: Secondary schools may not be able to welcome visitors to their premises this year, but they have created online avenues for you to discover the exciting programmes in store and help you widen your school choices.
Open houses allow parents and children to find out about the school’s environment and culture. However, with COVID-19, secondary schools are unable to invite visitors to walk through their premises and talk to current students, teachers and principals.
Instead, schools will be updating their websites to help you get to know them better – some schools are also organising live engagement sessions for interested parents.
Choosing a Secondary school is an important milestone in your child’s educational journey. Here are some steps to consider as you make the decision:
1. Talk to your child about their strengths and learning styles
Besides academic results, talk about their interests and aspirations. Help them find out what they are good at and the type of activities that they value and enjoy.
2. Explore what you and your child are looking for in a Secondary school
Each school has its own distinctive programmes and offer subjects and CCAs to develop students in various areas. Together, you can do up a checklist of things you and your child are looking out for in a Secondary school.
3. Shortlist suitable schools on the SchoolFinder site
With the checklist, use SchoolFinder to explore and shortlist schools that best suit their pace of learning. These should be schools that will offer opportunities and programmes to develop their talents, strengths and interests. Shortlist 3 schools that are slightly below, around and slightly above your child’s Prelim results – and perhaps another 3 schools that you’re less familiar with but popped up in your SchoolFinder search for school features.
4. Look for virtual open house details in our table below
Find out more about what each school has to offer, by visiting their websites or joining in their online engagements (see listing below). Click around and check out the school with the family in the comfort of your home.
5. Submitting your choices
When the PSLE results are released, revisit the list of shortlisted schools with your child to finetune his options. Try to include at least two choices where your child’s PSLE score is at least 5 points above the school’s cut-off points to increase his chances of being posted to one of his shortlisted schools.
Use all 6 options. This will increase your child’s chances of being posted to a school of his choice. If your child does not get into a chosen school, he will be posted to a school with vacancies near your registered address.
