Where Play
Sparks Growth

How MOE Kindergartens are developing our preschoolers

School today is no longer just about worksheets and tests.

At MOE Kindergartens (MK), “purposeful play” is an important part of its curriculum. Sneak a peek into what this looks like in the different learning spaces at MK@Casuarina!

Kyara Elizabeth Dara, K2

Outdoor
Play Area

With a garden, playground, sandpit, and water play area, children get to run around and play in the outdoors every day.

Sand play immerses children in a multi-sensory experience – inviting them to explore different textures and materials, and connect with nature as part of their school day.

Hana Qaisara binte Idrus, K2

“Outdoor play is a highlight for our children. They gain coordination skills, strength, agility and confidence through physical play.”

“At our rock wall, children learn to encourage each other and resolve small disagreements with one another. They also learn to wait for their turn to use the rock wall. Through these little moments, we see how they cooperate and care for one another.”

Learning
Centres

Children engage in pretend play and act out real-life scenarios such as visiting a clinic or a market stall, allowing them to build new vocabulary.

All aboard! Children get to be bus captains and passengers. These make-believe rides turn into real-life learning about Singapore’s public transport system.

Fairuz Adam bin Mohammad Shahrin, K1

“By inventing worlds and stories, children are empowered to create and reimagine possibilities. We also see exponential growth in their communication skills.”

(Pre-School Education)

“Pretend play is a fun and powerful way for children to learn about the world around them. By taking on different roles and acting out real-life situations, they build their confidence and creativity.”

Music &
Movement Room

Here, children are free to dance and play with musical instruments such as drums and tambourines.

Time to groove! As children move to the beat of the music, they grow in confidence and discover the joy of expressing themselves.

Lauren Tan Shi Xuan, K2

“Children create their own songs and movements, building their executive functioning skills like self-regulation as they move in time with the music.”

(Pre-School Education)

“Music gives children an outlet to express their creativity and emotions, while movement and dance help children develop their coordination skills, balance and rhythm.”

Classrooms

MK classrooms are designed to be flexible and child-centred learning spaces, so children can work both independently and in groups.

Through fun activities, children learn how to put sounds together to make words. Children also experience hands-on learning across different areas like literacy and numeracy.

Driston Sim Kang Yu, K2

“The flexible classroom design encourages opportunities for children to collaborate with each other, enriching their learning experiences”

“Our classrooms are designed to have a big space in the middle where children can gather to discuss various topics, such as the neighbourhood. They share and listen to one another’s personal stories and experiences, such as the shopping mall they visit and the transportation they take. Through this, children learn to value each other’s opinions, and we see their confidence grow.”

At MK, every space is a learning space

Every learning space in this story reflects how children learn best – by exploring, imagining, and discovering at their own pace. If you’d like to find out how play-based learning supports your child’s growth, curiosity, and confidence, explore our programmes and learn more about enrolment on our website.
