If you ask a teacher where a world of possibilities takes place, many would answer: outdoors.
When we see a tree, they see it as a pretend-play umbrella. When we use cones as sports equipment, they use them as hats. When we throw a ball for them to catch, they see themselves as the best goalkeeper in the world. When we show them creepy crawlies in soil, they ask endless questions about the world among them.
Sometimes, the greatest learning happens when adults step back and allow children’s imagination and discovery to lead the way.

As an educator, I have the privilege of witnessing moments that often go unnoticed but leave the greatest impact. Every day, I see students discovering new interests, embracing challenges, supporting one another, and growing in confidence.
Whether they are exploring cultural traditions, creating through art, collaborating with friends, or finding joy in play, each experience becomes a stepping stone in their journey.
They remind me that education is not only about academic achievement but also about nurturing character, creativity, and a lifelong love for learning.

Funtasia

Once every two years, National Junior College opens its doors to the public, as students, staff, parents, and alumni transform the campus into a vibrant carnival called FUNTASIA, in support of Eden School and Eden Centre for Adults under the Autism Association of Singapore.
Students dream up exciting attractions, from dunk tanks and go-karts to giant inflatables. The Secondary 1 students paint individual canvases that come together to form the letters for FUNTASIA, showing how small efforts unite for a greater cause.
Through teamwork and creativity, students across all six levels make FUNTASIA a success.

APSN Katong School
Stepping beyond the classroom, APSN Katong School students transformed the outdoors into a vibrant photography classroom alongside their senior peers from APSN Delta Senior School.
This joint learning journey fostered collaboration as Delta students mentored their juniors in techniques such as low-angle composition, macro photography and reviewing images on the camera.
As one teacher-facilitator shared, “Seeing Katong students learn alongside Delta Senior students reminds us that their potential does not end at graduation.”

Classrooms Beyond Borders

Our Overseas Learning Journey to Jakarta, Indonesia gave students the opportunity to learn beyond the classroom and experience the rich culture of our neighbouring country.
From exploring historical landmarks and museums to watching their first wayang kulit performance, trying their hand at rice planting in the padi fields, immersing themselves in kampung life and visiting a live television studio, every experience broadened their horizons.
For me, the most rewarding moments were watching the students step out of their comfort zones, grow in confidence and look out for one another.
