If you ask me what the joy of being a teacher is, it is the smallest, often unnoticed moments that make it priceless.
It is squeezing into a tiny lift with laptops, trolleys, and microphones on the way to class. It is sharing laughter with children, watching them grow, and seeing students eagerly offer to help without being asked.
There are challenges, but a student asking, “Are you okay?” or a colleague stepping in to help remind us that we are never alone. In the end, it is the connections that matter. Knowing we are there for one another gives us the strength to keep showing up each day.

Bittersweet Victory

There is something peculiar about winning. It is not the desperate sigh of relief when the final whistle blows, nor is it the embrace of a teammate knowing that all the effort has not gone to waste. Instead, it is the sight of the other team with heads down and shoulders slumped, and knowing that our victory is built on someone else’s disappointment.
Despite the win, a part of us still aches for them — that is the bittersweet truth of competition. The winner carries this burden, savouring the triumph of victory while honouring the heartbreak sitting silently on the other side.

A smile during a gallery discussion. Paint on curious hands. A robot built from recycled materials. These moments remind us that art is not about producing perfect masterpieces.
Whether learning from artists, exploring museums or creating alongside their peers, students are encouraged to take ownership of their ideas.
The artwork may one day fade, but the confidence to express themselves, the courage to try again and the joy of creating together will remain. As their art teacher, I see curious learners, thoughtful creators and individuals who see the world through creative eyes.
