Every May, my school hosts a wide variety of unique learning challenges! Something truly magical happens: the quiet students liven up, and the usually reserved ones seem to start flocking from place to place in curiosity.

This year, our school brought us to Taiwan. There, we got to witness the local culture, try the local food, and interact with local students.

However, the most important thing we gained in Taiwan was the memories we would hold onto for the rest of our lives. I feel honoured to have been able to capture such intangible moments.

What Remains After Metamorphosis

“台上一分钟，台下十年功” — this roughly translates to “One minute in the spotlight, ten years of dedication behind it.”

This phrase rang hard and true as I watched our very own Chinese Drama CCA group perform their Singapore Youth Festival piece, 虫塑 (Reform), based on Kafka’s Metamorphosis.

Yet, what remains after Metamorphosis was not just an empty chrysalis; it was a legacy left behind for those who would one day begin their own transformation.

Though their time on stage has ended, these moments live on, carried forward by the people they inspired.

Behind The Curtain

We have always seen performances from the audience seat, but what is it like to see one from behind the curtain? During Luminara, a biennial dance performance, I had the opportunity to capture the moments before the dancers stepped onstage.

Imagine this: You are standing backstage, watching your friends perform, and you cannot help but think back to how you got here — the arduous preparations, the friends who pulled you through this journey.

Before you know it, the audience erupts in applause. The dancers you were watching leave, but the memories remain.
